All members of the HCCI Board of Directors should have May 19 and June 16 on their calendars to take part in two important events.
On May 19, HCCI will hold a special meeting of its Board of Directors at Shelter House #2 at Lake Shawnee in Topeka, starting at 1 pm that afternoon. The main purpose of this special Board meeting will be to conduct a Strategic Plan Retreat. As you will recall, HCCI is due to adopt a new strategic plan to guide our organizational direction. Late in 2014, the Board approved the following plan during 2015 to develop our next Strategic Plan.
- Stage One – Assessment – During the first few months of this year, HCCI staff and Board volunteers have been assessing current HCCI programs/services and operations/partnerships. An HCCI Assessment Report will be completed and sent to the HCCI Board by early May. This document will provide valuable information and form the base for our Board Retreat activities.
- Stage Two – Visioning – When we gather at the Lake Shawnee Shelter House #2 on May 19, the HCCI Board will establish HCCI’s future direction at our Strategic Plan Retreat. The Board will be charged that day with establishing HCCI’s future goals for programs/services, operations, partnerships, and revenue generation. During the Retreat, the Board will also affirm HCCI’s mission and define HCCI’s organizational vision.
- Stage Three – Formation – Using the direction provided at the HCCI Strategic Plan retreat, the HCCI Executive Committee will draft the HCCI Strategic Plan during the early fall of 2015.
- Stage Four – Adoption – The vision created at the HCCI Board Strategic Plan Retreat in May will return to the Board as a Strategic Plan Draft at the Board meeting on November 17. At that meeting, the Board will be invited to amend the draft and then approve the future HCCI Strategic Plan.
The Strategic Plan Retreat is expected to take the entire afternoon on May 19, with adjournment planned for 5 pm. HCCI Board members will then be encouraged to stay at the Shelter House for our annual HCCI Board Mixer. After a full afternoon of strategic plan development, the Mixer will be great opportunity for Board members to enjoy some food and fellowship.
On June 16, HCCI will host the membership of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce for the Chamber’s Business After Hours event at our headquarters at 1195 Buchanan. Every month, the Topeka Chamber takes its Business After Hours to a different venue in the city. When it comes to HCCI June 16, it will be a great opportunity to introduce Topeka business leaders to Housing and Credit Counseling and the important service we provide to our community.
The Business After Hours event at HCCI should start around 5 pm and wrap up a little after 7 pm. HCCI Board members and staff are invited to help Chamber members enjoy their visit to HCCI. In the coming weeks, we will share more information about the Chamber’s Business After Hours event and how you can help. May 19 and June 16 are two important days for HCCI Board members.
