The Director of Financial Management for Stormont-Vail HealthCare, Michael Kongs, will lead the volunteer management of HCCI following his election to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Housing and Credit Counseling. The election of HCCI Officers and new Board members were among the highlights of the HCCI Board of Directors Annual Meeting and Retreat held January 10.

The titles for several executive committee posts will be different in 2015. Following an amendment to the HCCI Bylaws that was formally adopted at the Annual Meeting, the officer positions of Vice Chairperson and Secretary have been replaced by the Vice Chair of Programs & Services and the Vice Chair of External Affairs positions. The change in officer responsibilities was proposed to increase executive committee involvement in the work of HCCI. In addition, the new officer structure will expose executive committee members to all aspects of HCCI operations, prior to becoming the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.

During the retreat portion of the January 10 meeting, the Board members heard from HCCI staff members and former clients about the counseling programs at HCCI. When learning about the experiences of clients, Board members received a clear picture of how the daily work of HCCI can positively impact lives.
The beginning of Mike Kongs’ term as Chairman of the HCCI Board meant the conclusion of the HCCI Chairmanship for Vince Frye. Vince, who is President & CEO of Downtown Topeka, Inc. provided outstanding volunteer leadership as the organization’s Chair during 2014. Vince utilized a winning combination of confidence, calm, personality and professionalism during his term leading HCCI. Everyone on the HCCI Board and Staff appreciates Vince’s service to advancing the mission of HCCI during his year as Chairman, and looks forward to his continued involvement in 2015 on the Board and Executive Committee as HCCI’s Immediate Past Chair.
